As a communication studies “scholar,” I am constantly thinking about words and the power they hold. Additionally, because I have always aspired to be a writer, I also think about words in an entirely different context–what they hold for the reader to discover and learn. I hope for this blog to be a critical and self-reflexive exploration of the world around me and the interests I have.

I am currently finishing my thesis for my M.A. in Communication Arts–an exploration of Kendrick Lamar’s use of rhetoric as an ideological tool for education and empowerment. Within the world of communication,  I like to study rhetoric and feminist media studies. Outside of academia, I am looking to pursue a job in journalism and media. My latest dream job is to be on NPR one day.

In my free time, I am an avid HGTV fan, love television and movies, and hanging out with friends and family. I have two pomeranians to whom I teach stupid tricks (like how to ring a bell). I try to write as much as possible (which isn’t nearly enough) and have been working on a novel on and off for the past five years, but, as we all know, the actual writing part often fails. (Another reason for this blog–to simply practice writing.)

I’d love to know more about you, so please say hi in the comments and stick around for a while.
